Thelma + Daniel | St. Louis Wedding

I am happy to introduce the newlyweds, Mr. & Mrs. Mamah!  Thelma and Daniel are two very special people with an immense and beautiful love for one another and for every person in their life.  Their wedding day was overflowing with this love in the form of beaming smiles on the faces of all their guests – guests who traveled from many parts of the world to be there.  Thelma’s family made the trip from Nigeria, and Daniel’s family from Buddapest, as well as friends and family from many states across the US… all to come together to celebrate and reflect their precious love.  To fill you in on the details of their day, I did a little something different… I asked the bride and groom to talk firsthand about a few different aspects of their day.  Be sure to see below!

The Details…  Thelma & Daniel’s wedding, as told by Thelma:

WHERE:  Daniel and I knew – even before we got engaged – that we were going to get married at our beautiful church, St. Francis Xavier (College) Church. We also wanted the beauty of nature to be the foundation of our reception decor, so we chose the World’s Fair Pavilion in gorgeous Forest park as our reception site.

THEME/STYLE:  We wanted our wedding to be a true reflection of us, and we wanted the images from our special day to stand the test of time. With this in mind, we went for classic and elegant choices. Our goal was to create an opulent, yet comfortable, atmosphere for our beloved guests to have a great time.

BRIDE’S DRESS:  I had been researching designers that I liked, and found that Klienfeld was the one place I could find dresses by all those designers. I went to NYC in October 2010 (my MOH and 2 bridesmaids were present) and after trying on 5 dresses, I tried on my dress and fell in love!

BRIDE’S SHOES:  I believe I  spent more time searching for my shoes than I did searching for my dress! I ended up with a lovely ivory peep toe pump with a gold heart shaped ornament.

JEWELRY/ACCESSORIES:  I chose jewelry that had an antique feel to them. I opted for citrine stones and yellow gold pieces. For the reception, I wore a bib citrine necklace as I removed the detachable straps on my gown.

HAIR & MAKEUP:  My hair and makeup team were amazing! I found Chris (my makeup artist) at Sephora. I don’t wear a lot of makeup, so I was bent on finding someone that will make me look beautiful and recognizable at the same time, and Chris delivered! Hope (my hairstylist) does my hair regularly so I was confident that she would do an excellent job, and she did!

GROOMSMEN & BRIDESMAIDS:  Daniel and I decided to choose people from different stages in our lives as our groomsmen and bridesmaids. We had friends that have been in our lives from as far back as 18 years. They all truly did an excellent job in supporting us on our special day.

WEDDING FAVORS:  We chose favors that served dual purposes. We used little picture frames as place cards and attached “for you” tags so people will know to take them home at the end of the night. Because we had a semi-outdoor reception, we handed out sandalwood hand fans that our guests got to take home. Each person also got a box of Godiva chocolate; the boxes were placed on each person’s charger so they added to the table decor!

THE FLOWERS:  We wanted our choice of flowers to add to the natural beauty of the park and at the same time create an ethereal feel to complement being outdoors. We chose mainly baby’s breath and added white hydrangeas and lilies.

THE CAKE:  We chose an all white cake to keep with the classic theme. The layers had 2 different flavors: chocolate and almond vanilla. The artistry of the girls at the Cakery is simply genius! and it was so delicious!!

INVITATIONS & STATIONERY:   We chose very simple invitations, but we added an element of surprise by using personalized stamps made out of one of our engagement pictures. That was the first thing our guests saw upon receiving our invitations! I designed and put together our ceremony program. For our reception stationary, I found Nikki, the owner of Days gone Design, on Etsy. She did a fantastic job!

FOOD & DRINK:  I cannot speak enough about Orlando’s catering! Jim Helton was excellent. The food was delicious; we gave our guests a choice of beef, chicken or vegetarian, and I have gotten only positive feedback from guests about all the meals.

A MEMORABLE MOMENT:   It’s hard to just choose one memorable moment! For me, it had to be a surprise serenade that Daniel (with the help of his groomsmen) belted out at the reception. I really did not see this coming at all! I was just overcome with emotions (yet again) by the beautiful lyrics of this song, that means a great deal to us both.  For Daniel, it was our entrance into the reception. Just getting to see all our planning executed excellently, and the smiles on our guests’ face as they cheered us on while we danced in.

THE HONEYMOON:  We had a FANTASTIC  honeymoon! We left for our honeymoon 5 days after we got married. Having more time to spend with our families who had traveled from all over the world was great. We also had time to take care of some post-wedding to-dos; giving us the peace of mind to enjoy our time in Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora.

A special thank you to my assistant photographers – Ben and Alicia – for your all your hard work and creativity!
